50 Schools Honored as Euregioprofile, Boosting Germany-Netherlands Cooperation
Fifty schools, including five new ones, have been recognised as Euregioprofile schools, promoting cross-border cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands. The ceremony in Enschede celebrated this achievement, with three German and two Dutch schools receiving the certification.
Since 2020, 45 schools have earned the Euregioprofile status, with three previously certified schools in 2022 receiving recertification. The goal is to foster culturally, socially, and economically sovereign students in the border region. To achieve this, schools must integrate the transnational idea into daily life, offer neighbouring language classes, facilitate student exchanges, and encourage cross-border awareness.
The certification is a central pillar of the extensive educational cooperation between Europa, Germany, and the Netherlands. Primary schools focus on making Dutch a 'language of encounter', while vocational colleges and secondary schools integrate Dutch into foreign language offerings and provide information about opportunities in the border region. The coordination office for German-Dutch exchange, 'Pädagogischer Austauschdienst - Koordinierungsbüro für den deutsch-niederländischen Austausch', established in 2015 by the Münster district government, supports this initiative.
The Euregioprofile certification continues to grow, with five new schools recognised in 2023. This brings the total to 50 schools promoting cultural, social, and economic sovereignty in the border region. The ceremony in Enschede marked a significant step forward in the ongoing educational cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands.
