Almaty's city leader honors exceptional pupils for their academic achievements.
In the bustling city of Konayev, Marat Sultanagaev, the Akim of the Almaty Region, hosted a gathering for bright pupils who triumphantly conquered the 2024-2025 academic year.
This occasion was orchestrated to commend students who shone academically and creatively, recognizing their stellar accomplishments.
"It's a true pleasure to meet budding prodigies who mastered the 2024-2025 academic year, cast our region in a positive light with their intellect and creative endeavors, and stood head and shoulders above their peers," remarked the regional head.
A glut of laurels, with 160 olympiad victories and 1433 "Altyn belgi" badges
In his address, Marat Sultanagaev underscored that this academic year, approximately 352,000 students were educated in 483 schools within the region, with a collective learning standard reaching 68.3%. This year alone, over 17,000 students received their diplomas, with 1,433 receiving the highly prestigious "Altyn belgi" badge, and 1,513 earning an "Excellent Diploma."
The regional head highlighted how the region's level of education has been on a steady incline year after year, attributed primarily to the hard work and dedication of teachers. While 104 students triumphed in international and republican olympiads in 2022-2023, that figure ballooned to 145 in 2023-2024, and hit an unprecedented 160 this year.
"The Almaty Region buzzes with gifted youth—a truth borne out not just by students residing in the city center but also by students hailing from remote villages. They left their mark at an olympiad among rural schools held in Astana, with the regional team recognized as the "Best Olympiad Team," securing first and second place," the regional head added.
Recognizing top talent and educators in the region
During the event, 22 students received Certificates of Appreciation from the regional Akim. The educators who molded these brilliant minds were also honored:
- Svetlana Bekmukhambetova – a physics instructor at School No.47 in Alatau city;
- Tamara Yeschanova – a geography teacher at "Bilim-Innovatsiya" Lyceum in Esiq city;
- Leila Narymova – a law teacher at School No.38 in the Iliisky district;
- Nurtay Ernarz – a chemistry teacher at School No.1 in Rakhat, Enbekshi Kazakh district.
Notable students from the region receive scholarships from top universities
Among the lauded students were champions of international olympiads and recipients of scholarships from prestigious global universities.
Jangir Iljanov – a multiple victor of international economics olympiads and recipient of scholarships from universities in the USA, UK, and Russia (Talgarsky District, "Dana" School); Khael Muslum – a student at the "Bilik-innovation" lyceum in Yesik; Bekmukhamet Aisha – a representative of the Ilyinsky District;* Ibadullaeva Shahrizat – from the Uigur District.
The gathering concluded with the participants singing the "Daryn" anthem and snapping a keepsake photo.
The Akim had the final word, encouraging the students, "Knowledge paves the way to endless opportunities. Never cease to learn, seek new horizons, and strive for advancement. Our nation's future is in your hands. May each of your steps propel you towards lofty goals."
