Free Active School (FAN) in Neuss Prepares for Expansion

The Free Active School (FAN) in Neuss is set to grow and eventually occupy the entire complex as the school continues to expand. This news comes as FAN maintains close ties with the Free Active School Wülfrath, and has also established a cooperation with the Free Active School Am Niederrhein (FASAN) in Mönchengladbach.

FAN, an educational initiative that promotes self-directed, project-based, and creative learning, will start the new school year with around 55 children (30 in elementary school and 25 in comprehensive school) and nine learning guides, including a social worker. The school currently uses only a part of the building, with plans to rent three more rooms from the city by 2026.

Around 50 more children are expected to join next year, with a waiting list already in place. The opening ceremony for the Free Active School Neuss is planned for early October, with detailed information available in the city newspaper. The school's website (www.freie-aktivschule-neuss.de) provides information about the school, including various possibilities for support and sponsorship.

During the founding phase, the Free Active School Neuss received support from the Free Active School Wülfrath. The vision of FAN is for young people to learn freely, follow their movement impulses, and express their creativity. The school encourages flexible curricula, experiential learning opportunities, and collaborative projects to foster creativity, critical thinking, and autonomy.

The FAN team has been actively preparing for the school year without the permit, with activities including painting, cleaning, gathering learning materials, and assembling a team of learning guides. The school will also hold a day of the open door during the same early October event.

For more detailed and up-to-date information about FAN in Neuss, it is recommended to visit their official website or contact the school directly to understand their current methods and programs promoting self-directed and creative learning.

The Free Active School Neuss is planning to expand its reach in the upcoming school year, aiming to provide an alternative, creative, and self-directed lifestyle education to a larger number of children. To achieve this, they anticipate renting three more rooms from the city by 2026, and potentially accommodating around 50 more students.

Driven by the vision of fostering creativity, critical thinking, and autonomy in young people, the Free Active School Neuss encourages other parents and guardians interested in an education-and-self-development approach to explore their offerings and possibly take part in supporting their mission.
