ARD Thriller 'Die Nichte des Polizisten' Reopens Michèle Kiesewetter Murder Case

On October 8, 2025, ARD will air 'Die Nichte des Polizisten' (The Niece of the Policeman), a thriller that delves into the unsolved murder of policewoman Michèle Kiesewetter. The film, directed by Dustin Loose and produced by Gabriela Sperl, suggests connections between criminal clans, police officers, and right-wing extremists, raising questions about the role of Kiesewetter's uncle. The film centres around Kiesewetter, who was just 22 when she was fatally shot in Heilbronn on April 25, 2007, alongside her colleague Martin A. Her uncle, portrayed as a police officer in Thüringen, acts as a role model to the protagonist and is involved in conflicts with local right-wing extremists. His character is linked to the broader right-wing extremist context of the crime, though the exact nature of his connection to the murder remains unclear. The film suggests connections between criminal clans and individual police officers, raising questions about potential corruption and collusion. It also explores the doubts surrounding the official attribution of the act to the right-wing extremist terror group NSU. The film ends with 'L'Amour Toujours' by Gigi D'Agostino, a song adopted as a code by right-wing radical groups. The film, set to premiere on ARD at 8:15 PM, followed by a documentary at 9:45 PM, promises to shed new light on the events leading up to Kiesewetter's murder. Despite the official attribution to the NSU, doubts persist, making this unsolved case one of the most spectacular in German post-war history. Viewers can expect a thought-provoking exploration of the complex web of crime, corruption, and extremism that surrounds this tragic event.
