Art Galley Extravaganza, NODO, Makes Waves in Buenos Aires
Revamped NODO Art Gallery Circuit Arrives, Boasting More Art, Collaborations, and Novel Experiences
Brace yourself, art enthusiasts! The latest edition of NODO, the ever-evolving Contemporary Art Gallery Circuit, is upon us, sporting a fresh lineup, additional participating galleries, and exciting novelties such as international discussions and acquisition programs, not to mention the classic lineup of exhibits and guided tours led by experts.
Here's a taste of what's in store:
- Charly García donates his songs to Instituto Cervantes' Caja de Letras
- Detangling the "Noble Savage" myth
Wondering how NODO links art spaces with the wider community? Well, didn't Gonzalo Lagos, executive director of MERIDIANO, put it perfectly when he said, "NODO is more than just a commercial project; it's a means to disseminate artists and promote Argentina's artistic scene, joining forces with cultural tourism, hospitality, and gastronomy."
But that's not all! The event also boasts a special program packed with performances, book presentations, conferences, public programs, and music cycles.
Things look a bit different this year, as the focus has shifted towards strengthening the commercial aspect. Expect to see more involvement from collectors, both national and foreign, who will enjoy special tours of participating galleries and the presence of foreign curators. The São Paulo Biennial will also make an appearance.
One notable change is the map, which has evolved to encompass each neighborhood's unique itinerary due to the growth of proposals. Find art exhibits in Recoleta, Retiro, Palermo, Villa Crespo, San Telmo, La Boca, Microcentro, and more!
The exhibition titled Unpredictable Encounters will be a nucleus of the event, showcasing twenty artists from varying galleries, who will explore themes such as ecological collapse and neoliberal crisis through their work.
As always, the big draw is exploring the exhibits. Most of the opening receptions will take place on Thursday, so mark your calendars for:
- "Skin Deep" by Fabio Miniotti at OTTO
- "Soft" by Paula Cahen D'Anvers at Cecilia Caballero
- "Fragility (Marie Orensanz)" and "Uses of Photography -XI/ Cast - Double Zero (Julio Grimblatt)" at Ruth Benzacar
- "All is Borrowed" by Liv Schulman at Piedras
- "The Modernist Canon" by Luciana Levinton at van Riel
- "Luis Frangella, Early Years, MIT & Guggenheim Fellowship, 1971-1981" at Cosmocosa
- "Noica" by Rocío Perillo and "What Tree Will I Never Climb?" by Alejandro Montaldo at Atocha
- "Resignified Questions" by Silvio Fischbein at Imaginario
The list goes on, with plenty more to discover in the remaining galleries. Plan your visits through the walking tours led by curators Natalia Albanese and Victoria Cobos, collaborating with the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires, or follow the cultural walk tours available on MERIDIANO's social media.
In addition to the exhibitions, don't miss the Conversations Program at the Modern Museum and the Amigos del Bellas Artes auditorium from May 9-10, featuring national and international experts exploring artistic practices in the face of current social changes.
There's even an acquisitions program in place to enrich the collections of local and international institutions with works by contemporary Argentine artists, setting a new precedent for collaboration between galleries, museums, and heritage institutions.
Get ready to submerge yourself in the vibrant world of Argentine art from May 7 to 9. Entry is free, so check out all the activities here for a day—or three—you'll never forget!
