Mitsuko Osuga to Teach Landscape-Themed Flower Arrangement Class
Acclaimed floral designer Mitsuko Osuga is set to teach a unique flower arrangement class that combines Western-style techniques with traditional Japanese aesthetics. The upcoming class, to be held in a Japanese-style setting, will focus on creative and colorful landscape-themed arrangements.
Born in Japan and a graduate of Waseda University in Tokyo, Mitsuko Osuga specializes in Western-style flower arrangement. She has over 25 years of professional experience in Tokyo, New York City, and Los Angeles, and owns and is the chief designer of Mitsuko Floral, a premier wedding/event floral design studio and school in Torrance, California.
Mitsuko Osuga's work has been widely recognized, earning her numerous industry awards, including the Wedding Wire's Couples' Choice Awards and The Knot's Best of Weddings. She was recently inducted into The Knot's Hall of Fame. Her work has been covered by a wide range of print and media outlets, including Ceremony magazine, various wedding and fashion blogs, special wedding programs on Fox and ABC, and several Japanese magazines and newspapers such as Japan Up!, Lighthouse, and Nikkan Sun.
In this class, Mitsuko Osuga will share her simplified Japanese-style flower arranging techniques, guiding learners to create elegant arrangements using seasonal flowers and blending Western floral techniques with traditional Japanese sensibilities. The techniques emphasize simplicity, respect for the flower’s natural form, and the arrangement’s overall harmony within the Japanese-style vase, similar to those in the exhibition 'KESHIKI | The Landscape Within'.
Participants will learn key simplified techniques such as using seasonal flowers to reflect natural beauty and evoke the spirit of the season, focusing on balance and asymmetry, blending Western methods with Japanese minimalist sensibilities, and encouraging a mindful, thoughtful process. A temporary vase will be provided for the class, and all participants will be able to keep their flower arrangements.
It's important to note that this class will not delve into the complex study of traditional Japanese flower arrangement (ikebana). Instead, Mitsuko Osuga will teach simpler techniques that are accessible to beginners while still maintaining the elegance and refinement associated with her work.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of the best in the industry and create your own beautiful, landscape-themed flower arrangement!
