Gear Up: Alstom Shifts into High Gear to Empower Rail Careers for Ontario Tech Students
Alstom, the global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has got exciting news for Ontario Tech University engineering students eyeing a career in the rail sector. In the run-up to the September 2025 launch of Canada's only English-language undergraduate Railway Engineering specialization at Ontario Tech University, Alstom is splashing out a whopping $106,000 CAD (approximately €68,000) over three years to support these tech-savvy students [1].
"Alstom and Ontario Tech — an effective team building the future!" said Dr. Hossam Kishawy, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Ontario Tech University. "This partnership exemplifies the power of industry and education partnerships in shaping our future. We pride ourselves on being responsive to market demands and driving innovation [1]."
Michael Keroullé, Americas Region President, Alstom, was quick to weigh in: "Our funding sets the stage for the next generation of rail-focused engineers to design and build Canada's railways—engineered by Canadians [1]."
The partnership isn't stopping at mere funding; it's an extensive three-phase program:
1. Alstom Canada Women for STEM Scholarship: With a total contribution of $66,000 (approximately €42,000) across three years, Alstom is establishing scholarships for academically top-notch female students entering their first year in eligible STEM-focused programs. Successful recipients who maintain the minimum GPA also receive $2,000 in-course awards in their subsequent years [2][3].
2. Student Enrichment Program: This initiative, focused on nurturing career-ready graduates for energetic fields, receives annual commitments of $10,000 to forge strong connections between industries and emerging talent through hands-on learning, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and recruitment initiatives [2][3].
3. Railway Design Team Support: Once Ontario Tech establishes the Railway Design team in the 2025-2026 academic year, Alstom will provide annual contributions of $5,000 for two years to back their projects [2].
