In a thought-provoking two-part workshop at the Kunsthalle Barmen, a group of young adults delved into the world of art, using it as a platform to express their concerns about societal issues and advocate for change.

Led by two art students from Bergische Universität, the workshop began with an open discussion on fears and concerns, with the threat to democracy by far-right actors being a central topic. Participants shared their worries about the lack of humanity in societal discourse, lamenting hate and prejudice against minorities.

Artist Jody Korbach, currently exhibiting at the Kunsthalle, provided valuable insights on handling typography in art, guiding the participants as they moved on to designing their posters. After two hours of planning, writing, painting, cutting, and gluing, the posters were complete.

The posters created during the workshop are colourful, unique, and sometimes provocative, each inviting reflection. One participant revealed they wanted to illustrate the fading of empathy and humanity with their poster, while another read, "What if the end doesn't come loudly - but quietly, comfortably, and... democratically elected?"

What unites the posters is their shared aim for change. The young adults used art as a powerful tool to voice their concerns and advocate for a more compassionate and democratic society.

Regrettably, a search did not return any direct information about the specific societal changes these young adults are advocating for through this workshop at Kunsthalle Barmen. More context or access to specific materials about the workshop would be required to analyze or summarize their advocacy points further.

This workshop serves as a testament to the power of art in fostering dialogue, promoting social change, and encouraging young adults to engage with and question the world around them.
