Cebu City to Assist Young Job-Seekers: Employment Assistance Program Initiated
Dive into Opportunities: Cebu City Set to Aid Young Jobseekers
Last Tuesday, Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia revealed plans for a distinct initiative to support aspiring job seekers aged 18-24. On May 1, 2025, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 organized a job fair at SM Seaside Cebu City in celebration of Labor Day.
Now, with an emphasis on youth employability, the City Government is all set to host a separate job fair for the younger demographic. According to Mayor Garcia, who shared the news on the Cebu City Public Information Office's Facebook page, this initiative will be called the Jobstart Philippines orientation.
Bustling at the DMDP Training Hall
Set to start at 10 a.m. on May 2, the Jobstart orientation will take place at the DMDP Training Hall, formerly located in Ramos Public Market, Barangay Cogon Ramos.
This event aims to equip young job hunters with valuable skills, employment guidance, coaching, and real-life industry internships. Moreover, participants can expect an allowance during the training and internship phases.
If you're interested in attending, bring your birth certificate or any government-issued ID, as well as your diploma and transcript of records, if available.
Road to Successful Employability
This program endeavors to empower residents and connect them with potential employers, ultimately enhancing their careers. In addition, the City Administration expresses its commitment to minimize the city's unemployment rate by providing residents with ample employment opportunities.
This year's Labor Day celebration was held under the theme, "Manggagawang Pilipino, Kaagapay sa Pag-unlad, Sandigan ng Mas Matatag na Bagong Pilipinas," honoring Filipino workers as integral to the nation's advancement.
Garcia mentioned that Dole 7, alongside the Cebu City Government and SM City Seaside Cebu, spearheaded the regional job fair. The event featured over 35 companies from diverse industries such as retail, wholesale, food, business process outsourcing, electronics, and accommodation, offering a combined 3,743 job vacancies.
According to Dole 7 Public Information Officer Roberto Cabardo, the region-wide job fair led to 80 on-the-spot job placements across local job fairs in Cebu, Bohol, and Dumaguete. At the SM City Seaside Cebu job fair alone, 17 individuals (6 men and 11 women) were immediately hired. In Dumaguete City, 30 applicants (17 men and 13 women) were successfully hired on the spot, while Bohol's job fair resulted in 33 on-the-spot hires (18 men and 15 women).
