China's Tariff Extension Continues, Daily Report by Forbes

In the realm of innovation, two distinct stories are making headlines this week. On one hand, a San Francisco-based startup named Loyal is working on a groundbreaking solution for canine aging, while Apex Technology, a key player in the satellite industry, is making strides in space exploration.

Loyal's Canine Longevity Pill

The startup Loyal, featured on Forbes' Next Billion-Dollar Startups list, is developing an oral pill to delay canine aging. This pioneering pill, named LOY-002, is designed for senior dogs (aged 10 and up) weighing at least 14 pounds. The pill aims to extend their healthy lifespan by mimicking the effects of a low-calorie diet, a scientifically proven method for extending lifespan [1][3]. Loyal is currently in talks with the FDA, with hopes of achieving conditional approval to market this pill by 2026.

Loyal is also working on additional therapies for large dogs. These therapies aim to limit a growth hormone more prevalent in big dogs, a factor that contributes to their shorter lifespans compared to smaller breeds [1].

Apex Technology's Satellite Advancements

Meanwhile, Apex Technology's new factory in Los Angeles is part of what CEO and cofounder Ian Cinnamon sees as the wave of the future for the satellite industry. The company, known for its satellite "buses," the main body of the satellite, including power and control systems, has seen its revenue boosted to $60 million, according to Forbes estimates [2].

Apex offers three different types of buses: the Aries, Nova, and Atlas. The Aries bus can carry up to 330 pounds of payload, and the Nova can hold twice as much. Defense accounts for about two-thirds of Apex's orders, with the potential for new uses in space helping the U.S. in its competition with China for supremacy in space [2].

Orders for Apex's satellites have topped $100 million from roughly a dozen customers, and the company produced three satellites in 2024, aiming to produce 10 this year [2]. These advancements could lead to new uses in space and boost the $20 billion revenue worldwide for satellite manufacturers reported by the Satellite Industry Association last year [4].

In other news, Tahoe Therapeutics, a startup in the biotech sector, raised $30 million in new venture funding [5]. Elon Musk attacked Apple in a series of posts, alleging Apple was refusing to highlight his social media platform and AI chatbot Grok on the App Store [6]. President Donald Trump extended the pause on higher tariffs on Chinese goods for another 90 days [7]. Tropical Storm Erin formed Monday and is expected to become the first major hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season [8]. U.S. gold futures briefly hit an all-time high Friday [9]. Paramount secured streaming and broadcast rights to the Ultimate Fighting Championship in a $7.7 billion deal [10]. MP Materials has seen shares surge 150% since its agreement with the Department of Defense [11].
