CLAT 2026 Exam Details Announced

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has announced the details for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026, which is scheduled to take place on December 7, 2025. The exam will be a pen-and-paper test, lasting for two hours and consisting of 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

The CLAT 2026 UG exam will evaluate English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Each correct answer will earn one mark, while each incorrect answer will result in a 0.25 mark penalty.

The sectional distribution of questions and approximate weightage are as follows: - English Language: 28-32 questions (approx. 18.7%-21.3%) - Current Affairs and General Knowledge: 35-39 questions (approx. 23.3%-26%) - Legal Reasoning: 28-32 questions (approx. 18.7%-21.3%) - Logical Reasoning: 35-39 questions (approx. 23.3%-26%) - Quantitative Techniques: 13-17 questions (approx. 8.7%-11.3%)

The syllabus includes extensive reading comprehension passages for most sections except Quantitative Techniques, which covers basic math topics like ratios, algebra, mensuration, and statistics.

Applications for CLAT 2026 started on August 1, 2025, and will close on October 31, 2025. The application correction window is in October 2025. The CLAT Admit Card will be issued in November 2025.

Preparation tips for CLAT students include focusing on the high-weight sections, practicing daily with passages and puzzles, taking frequent full-length mocks, and improving endurance and timing.

The application fee for General, OBC, and PwD candidates is INR 4000, while SC and ST candidates pay INR 3500.

For PG candidates, the CLAT 2026 exam covers subjects such as Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, and other major law subjects. Quantitative Techniques accounts for 10% of the CLAT 2026 UG exam and includes basic arithmetic and maths problems such as ratio-proportion, algebra, mensuration, statistics, and simple problems.
