New Kindergarten Opens in Nordhorn, Expanding Childcare Options

Nordhorn, Germany - The city of Nordhorn has opened a new small kindergarten, located at Niedersachsenstraße 78. This new addition to the city's childcare facilities is a significant step towards the goal of creating around 200 new crèche places for children under three years old and approximately 225 kindergarten places for children aged three and above through new and renovation projects by the end of 2020.

The building on Niedersachsenstraße was previously owned by the municipal housing association and was built specifically for a children's meeting point 15 years ago. It has now been transformed into a modern kindergarten, equipped with new furniture in time for the targeted opening date.

The new kindergarten, previously known as the children's meeting point "Eagle's Nest", is now operated by the city. All 15 places in the new kindergarten have been filled, taking into account the allocation criteria. The kindergarten cares for children under the age of three, from Monday to Friday until 2 pm.

Frank Elskamp, the manager of the new kindergarten, also manages the "House for Children", which was previously the only daycare center run by the city. Elskamp aims to find a name for the new kindergarten together with the parents of the children being cared for and the three educators. The parents have proposed naming it "Kindergarten Blanke Talente" (Blanke Talents Kindergarten).

GEWO Managing Director Reno Schuett conveyed best wishes for the new kindergarten, stating that it will fit well into the family-friendly residential environment around Niedersachsenstraße, Pommernstraße, and Wuerttemberger Straße. City Councilor Marlies Schomakers is convinced that the new kindergarten has a very family-friendly character and will provide a good environment for both children and parents.

In a separate development, the "Eagle's Nest" is expected to reopen its doors at the beginning of 2019. It will be moved to the Blanke primary school, with the ground floor of the side wing being prepared and equipped accordingly. The city will take on the sponsorship of the new daycare center, which is being converted from the pavilion on the grounds of the former Frensdorfer School by the owner GEWO into a daycare center with a crèche and a regular group, with operations expected to begin there in the first quarter of 2019.

Mayor Thomas Berling is pleased that the new crèche is one of the building blocks in the city's comprehensive package of measures to expand child daycare. City Councilor Marlies Schomakers and City Building Director Thimo Weitemeier welcomed the highly motivated team of educators around facility manager Frank Elskamp. Elskamp assures that the same high quality standards as the "House for Children" are being set at the new kindergarten.
