Deadline Extension for Universities: JAMB Permits More Time for Submitting Scores of Underage Candidates for 2025 Post-UTME
Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has announced a special screening exercise for underage candidates who missed the deadline for submitting their Post-UTME screening scores. The exercise will take place between September 22 and 26 at designated centres in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri.
The decision comes after it was revealed that 23 out of 71 universities defaulted in meeting the earlier September 15 deadline. Among the universities with the most underage candidates who have not yet submitted their Post-UTME screening scores are the University of Lagos, leading with 39 candidates, and Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, which follows closely with 18 candidates. The University of Uyo and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, also have 9 and 15 underage candidates respectively.
The JAMB Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, made this announcement on Thursday, urging the institutions to forward the results of the underage candidates without delay. He warned that failure to comply could affect the admission process of candidates who had chosen the schools.
Public universities have been given until September 30 to upload their recommended candidates to the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), while private universities have until October 31 to do the same.
JAMB had earlier disclosed in August that a special screening would be organized for over 500 underage candidates seeking admission for the 2025/2026 academic session. However, it appears that only slightly above 500 underage candidates who sat for the 2025 UTME met the requirements to proceed to the next stage.
Professor Oloyede will oversee the special screening, with the exercise to be conducted by a technical committee. The exact name of the university with the most underage candidates who missed the deadline for the Post-UTME screening for 2025 remains undisclosed.
Fabian Benjamin emphasized the importance of the special screening, stating that it is a critical step towards ensuring fairness and transparency in the admission process. He urged all institutions to cooperate fully with JAMB to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.
