Delaware's Latina Business Gathering Highlights Successful Latina Business Owners Statewide

The Latina Business Summit, set to take place on June 14, 2023, at La Plaza Delaware in Milford, Delaware, is a unique event designed to celebrate and empower Latina women in business. Mary Dupont, the executive director of La Plaza Delaware, emphasises the importance of women seeing themselves as the driving force behind the success of their businesses.

In a departure from traditional business conferences, the Latina Business Summit blends panel discussions and peer-led conversations with moments of celebration that highlight joy, identity, and culture in business success. The event aims to validate all types of contributions, both visible and unseen, that Latina women make as entrepreneurs, caregivers, creatives, and partners in family businesses.

Key themes of the summit include fostering support and confidence among Latina women, encouraging them to take time for themselves and to recognise and celebrate their achievements. The event seeks to be uplifting and empowering, offering insights into branding strategies, personal storytelling, and more, as well as a space for fun, recognition, and community connection.

Prominent figures such as Dr. Guillermina Gonzalez and Margie López-Waite, alongside local entrepreneurs, will be featured at the event. The summit will conclude with a vision board activity to help attendees bring their business goals to life.

With over 100 women registered for the event, the Latina Business Summit is expected to provide a platform for women of different paths to share knowledge and build a sense of collective purpose. The day will include opportunities for networking in a relaxed setting over mocktails and conversation.

The Latina Business Summit is powered by Hearken, a nonprofit organisation that relies on financial support from readers. Katy Castillo, La Plaza's marketing consultant, encourages women to take their 'me days' and enjoy themselves during the summit, similar to going to the spa or gym.

Across the nation, 36% of all new businesses launched in 2023 were Latino-owned, and in Delaware, the percentage of Latino-owned businesses increased from 5% in 2022 to 6% in 2023. The summit is a testament to the growing influence and success of Latina women in business.

The goal of the Latina Business Summit is not just to teach new strategies but to help Latina women see themselves more clearly and feel confident enough to lead. The event is a celebration of the multifaceted roles Latina women play and a step towards a more inclusive and empowered business landscape.
