Denver DPS Election: Four Candidates Vie for District 4 Seat, Debate Key Issues

Denver Public Schools (DPS) voters will soon decide the district's future as ballots for November's election are set to be mailed later this week. Four open seats, including District 4, will determine the direction of the city's largest school district. A recent debate event at Regis University saw candidates discussing key issues such as academics, declining enrollment, and school safety.

Four candidates are vying for the District 4 seat: Jeremy Harris, Monica Hunter, Timiya Jackson, and Michelle Quattlebaum. They joined candidates from other districts and the At-Large seat in a debate moderated by News Colorado's Anna Alejo, who ensures diverse perspectives in the network's programming.

The At-Large seat, representing all of Denver, has two candidates remaining: Amy Klein Molk and Alex Magaña, after Deborah Sims Fard withdrew due to injury. District 2 candidates Xochitl Gaytán and Mariana del Hierro, and District 3 candidates Caron Blanke, Scott Esserman, and DJ Torres also participated in the debate.

Candidates discussed a range of topics, including the superintendent's performance, charter schools, school choice, and the all-gender bathroom dispute. They also addressed pressing concerns such as declining enrollment and immigration enforcement in schools.

With the election approaching, voters are encouraged to review the candidates' stances on these crucial issues. The outcome of this election will significantly impact the direction of Denver Public Schools and the education of its students.
