Diagnosing ATC (Air Traffic Controller) performance using the FEAST (Flight Efficiency Analysis & Streamlined Testing) assessment tool.
You're gearing up for the FEAST selection test, but unsure where to begin? Let's break it down.
What is FEAST?
FEAST, or First European Air Traffic Controller Selection Test, is a set of examinations developed by EUROCONTROL to determine the suitability of candidates for the demanding role of an air traffic controller. 🛩️🦺
Preparing for FEAST
While some abilities, like spatial orientation, can't be learned, training can still help hone your potential in related areas. To get a feel for the ATC environment and improve your aviation English, we suggest checking out our sister platform. 💻📚
FEAST Exam Structure
The FEAST exam is divided into three main sections: FEAST I, FEAST II, and FEAST III (or a simulator-based assessment). 🎯
FEAST I
This initial screening includes tests to assess your basic skills in visual perception, logical reasoning, attention, multi-tasking, spatial orientation, and English language knowledge. The exam is approximately 2 1/2 hours long, and all sections are computer-based. ⌛️💻
FEAST II
Candidates who pass FEAST I are invited to FEAST II, a more comprehensive test. This phase includes multi-tasking exercises similar to the job requirements of an ATC, with no prior knowledge needed. 🧱🎯
FEAST III (or Simulator-Based Assessment)
Some organizations may include an interview and a simulator-based assessment in their selection process, evaluating communication, teamwork, and practical ATC skills. 🗣️🧪
Tips for Acing the FEAST Exam
- Familiarize yourself with the Air Traffic Control environment.
- Practice visualizing and manipulating 3D objects (spatial awareness).
- Work on your attention and perceptual speed.
- Improve your multi-tasking abilities.
- Brush up on your math, logic, and problem-solving skills.
- Develop good listening skills and recall.
