New Forest Group 'Fuchsbau' Opens at Sylverberg Kindergarten

A new forest group for children aged three to six, named 'Fuchsbau', has started at Sylverberg Kindergarten in Hamm, Germany. This innovative group is based on the principles of forest pedagogy and Montessori pedagogy, promoting the independence and self-directed learning of the children.

The forest group, 'Fuchsbau', is located on approximately 10,000 square meters of forest area within the kindergarten's fenced grounds. A mobile home, set up, furnished, and inaugurated by Mayor Marc Herter in early September, serves as a shelter for the group, particularly on heavy rain or cold days. The mobile home is used for meals, rest times, changing situations, and material storage.

The motto of the forest group, 'Experiencing Nature - Learning Life', reflects the emphasis on education for sustainable development (ESD) and the focus on spending most of their time in the forest and outdoor area, regardless of weather conditions. The forest group is led by kindergarten director Sintje Murawski.
