On the 20th of June, a job fair was held at the Neuss Civic Society, located at Muhlestraße 27, with the aim of providing career opportunities for former Kaufhof employees. The event was organised in collaboration between the works council, Prof. Dr. Jan-Philipp Büchler, CDU Mittelstandsvereinigung, the city party, and the economic commissioner of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss.

The job fair saw the participation of 15 companies, including food retailers EDEKA Gossens and Weinhandel Pörzgen, Autohaus Schwab-Tolles, financial services Volksbank Neuss, healthcare provider St. Augustinus Group, innovative industrial companies like Sirah Lasertechnik GmbH, and several others.

Nine former Kaufhof employees attended the event, each armed with their résumés and documents, eager to make a fresh start in a different industry and acquire new qualifications. The event provided a platform for many good conversations and contacts between the former Kaufhof employees and the companies.

Bärbel Kohler, an entrepreneur and coach, played a significant role in organising the job fair. She reported that the event was successful, with approximately 60 open positions offered by these companies. For four employees and companies, very concrete new career prospects emerged during the event.

Further discussions are planned for almost all of the former Kaufhof employees, as mentioned earlier. The Technologiezentrum Glehn, the Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, and the Federal Employment Agency were also present at the event, offering their support.

The idea for the job fair was developed from intensive discussions between the works council and Prof. Dr. Jan-Philipp Büchler, CDU Neuss's chairman of the economic committee. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration and the community's commitment to supporting those affected by the closure of Kaufhof.

In addition to the companies named, it is likely that B + R Baustoff-Handel und Recycling Düsseldorf-Neuss, Remex, and EGN, with job postings related to the Neuss/Düsseldorf region, were also represented at the job fair, although they were not explicitly identified as exhibitors.

The success of this job fair underscores the potential for similar events in the future, providing a much-needed boost for those seeking new opportunities in their careers.
