Encouraging Diversity in the Workplace: Advocating for Democratic Principles
On September 8, 2025, the University of Göttingen, in collaboration with the city and county, is hosting an event titled "Showing Attitude - Standing Up for Democratic Party Values in the Workplace". This event, which takes place from 10:00 to 13:00 at the New Town Hall, Göttingen, is open to all employees of the university, city, and county, students, and the interested public.
The event series aims to equip everyone involved with the tools to take responsibility, stand up against anti-democratic trends, and counter discrimination in their daily actions. Three in-depth workshops are offered for employees of participating institutions, although the names of the workshop leaders remain undisclosed at this time.
These workshops are specifically designed for employees of participating institutions and will provide tips on reacting to racist remarks at work, strategies to protect employees from discrimination, and ways to foster a more inclusive and diverse workplace environment.
In addition to the workshops, the event will feature small moderated group discussions on focus topics such as anti-discrimination and employee co-determination. Good practices from the local area will be shared during these discussions.
Marlene Gohl from the Anne Frank Educational Center e.V. will deliver a lecture titled "Courage for Democracy - Together for Diversity and Cohesion" to open the event. The University of Göttingen, along with the city and county, has signed the Charta der Vielfalt, a commitment to respect and value all people, regardless of age, gender, origin, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
All interested individuals are encouraged to register for the event by Friday, September 5, 2025. More information about the event, including registration details, can be found on the uni-our-website/diversity-day. For more information about the Charta der Vielfalt, visit charta-der-vielfalt.de.
Dr. Daniela Marx from the University of Göttingen's Equal Opportunities and Diversity Office has stated the importance of standing together for democratic party values in the workplace. This event is a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and democratic environment in Göttingen.
