Expanded Support for Children from Families Struggling with Addiction to Be Implemented
Brandenburg Launches Prevention Projects to Support Children Affected by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Issues
The Brandenburg State is taking a significant step towards supporting children from families struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. Three model regions in Brandenburg will soon be selected for new projects aimed at preventing these children from developing similar problems later in life.
According to Andrea Hardeling, director of the Brandenburg State Office for Addiction Issues, these projects will be discussed in Potsdam this morning. In her statement, Hardeling highlighted the urgent need for better cooperation among local educators, childcare workers, sports trainers, and other stakeholders, as she believes that children from affected families often receive insufficient support.
Hardeling also pointed out a lack of ideas and knowledge among professionals in kindergartens, schools, and other facilities on how to handle children and families affected by substance abuse and mental health issues. She emphasized that approximately 56,000 children in Brandenburg, up to the age of 14, are estimated to be affected by these issues.
The goal of these projects is to identify affected children early and offer assistance, with the ultimate aim of preventing them from developing substance abuse or mental health problems in the future. Health Minister Britta Müller (independent) stated that the goal is for these children not to be left alone with their worries or challenges of daily life.
The projects are being funded by an initiative of the statutory health insurers - the GKV Alliance for Health -, the Auridis Foundation, and the Brandenburg State Health Ministry. Counties and independent cities in Brandenburg can now apply for the prevention project of the Brandenburg State Office for Addiction Issues.
It's important to note that while there are related programs and data from other states or broader contexts, there are no detailed search results specifically describing a prevention project in Brandenburg focused on supporting children from families affected by substance abuse and mental health issues. To find more information about these localized initiatives, it's recommended to consult local government or health department websites in Brandenburg.
Hardeling also addressed the stigmatized nature of these illnesses, stating that open discussion is lacking. She hopes that these projects will help break down these barriers and provide better support for affected children in Brandenburg. If selected, the prevention project could start as early as this year.
- The prevention projects launched in Brandenburg aim to help children from families struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues, focusing on early identification and assistance to prevent future problems.
- These projects, which are part of a broader effort towards supporting health-and-wellness, mental-health, and education-and-self-development, will be implemented in three model regions selected in Brandenburg.
- To ensure the success of these projects, continuous learning and knowledge-sharing among educators, childcare workers, sports trainers, and other stakeholders are essential, as emphasized by Andrea Hardeling, the director of the Brandenburg State Office for Addiction Issues.
