Experience firsthand accounts in virtual reality – German tour commences - Experience Virtual Reality with On-site Witnesses - Germany Tour Commences

Get a raw, personal account from National Socialism's past: You can do just that with the "In Echt?" mobile exhibition coming to a city near you in Germany. This unique experience allows the public to connect with Jewish eyewitnesses, as revealed by the Brandenburg Society for Culture and History. The tour starts at the iconic Brandenburg Gate in Potsdam, lasting from now until May 11th.

The traveling exhibition is housed in a truck, traveling from town to town. With a state-of-the-art VR headset, visitors can meet five eyewitnesses, including 96-year-old Ruth Winkelmann, who will share their riveting experiences and recollections from the NS era.

"We reside in a time where extremism and the degradation of human dignity have become more rampant, more visible, and more violent," said Michel Friedman, the publicist and patrons of the tour. In this environment, it's crucial to preserve the past for future generations.

Travel across Germany

Following Potsdam, the mobile exhibition will head to Halle (Saale) (May 13-16), Zwickau (May 19-23), Erfurt (May 26-30), and Schwerin (June 2-6). Further stops in western Germany will be scheduled for the fall. Admission is free!

Beyond "In Echt?"

While there is no imminent virtual reality exhibition focused on National Socialism eyewitnesses nationwide, there are several museums and historical sites across Germany that provide valuable insights into the history of National Socialism:

Munich

  • National Socialism Tour: Join a guided tour exploring crucial sites related to Nazi history from 1923 to 1945. The tour costs €25 and can be reserved for visits starting around April 2025.
  • General Art and Historical Exhibitions: Beyond National Socialism, Munich offers various cultural exhibitions, such as "Body Worlds" and "What the City. Perspectives of Munich." which expose historical and contemporary themes.

Berlin

  • Topography of Terror: A comprehensive outdoor and indoor museum situated at the former SS headquarters provides an extensive timeline of Nazi history, from the party's origins to the end of World War II. The site is free and a great opportunity to understand the Nazi regime's impact on German history.
  • Time Travel in the Old Tiergarten District: This exhibition immerses visitors in the glitzy era before the National Socialist takeover in 1933, shining a spotlight on the lives of famous residents.
  • Emotional Things: An exhibition focusing on resistance against National Socialism at the end of the war, hosted at the Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand.
