Explore Berlin's Innovative Student Art Scene: Locations for Experiencing Raw and Pioneering Artworks at UdK Rundgang
UdK Berlin's Annual Student Exhibition, Rundgang, Returns for its 50th Anniversary
The annual student exhibition, Rundgang, at the Universität der Künste (UdK) Berlin is set to return for its 50th anniversary in 2025. This three-day event, a significant milestone in the UdK calendar, will showcase the artistic works and processes of students from various departments, including Fine Arts, Architecture, Media and Design, Music, Performing Arts, and affiliated centers such as the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin and the Jazz Institute Berlin.
The event, open to the public and prospective students, offers a unique opportunity to delve into the university's diverse courses and creative environment. The exhibition will take place across nine of the 23 venues at UdK, with the Medienhaus in Schoeneberg being one such venue.
At the Medienhaus, visitors can expect to encounter the film and media projects of Professors Thomas Arslan and Nina Fischer, alongside never-before-exhibited works from students across various departments. The Sound Studies and Sonic Arts program exhibits at two locations—Lietzenburger Straße 45 and Bundesallee 1–12—with an array of student artists showcasing their works.
The Music and Performing Arts department will present shows and concerts on Fasanenstraße, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the event. Additionally, master's students from the Design & Computation program will exhibit their works in specific rooms, curating their own exhibition spaces.
Before the exhibition, some students may have never exhibited their work outside the classroom, making this a nerve-wracking yet exciting opportunity for them. There will be no overarching curation for the exhibition, allowing each department to present their works as they see fit.
The UdK, Europe's largest art school, has faced funding cuts, leading to a hiring freeze, allowing for temporary staff replacements only. Despite these challenges, the university continues to foster creativity and nurture talent, as evidenced by the Rundgang exhibition.
Claudia Assmann, the director of press and communications at UdK, encourages everyone to attend the exhibition, stating, "Rundgang is a chance to encounter artists and performers in their raw variety, offering insights into the university's diverse courses and creative environment."
