US Administration Mulls Terminating Contracts with Harvard University

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is considering cancelling the remaining contracts with Harvard University, worth approximately $100 million, according to a senior administration official. The General Services Administration (GSA) has directed federal agencies to scrutinize and potentially terminate contracts with the Ivy League institution, following an internal review.

This decision is part of an ongoing dispute between the administration and the university, which has been marked by disagreements over various concerns, including admissions policies, leadership, and governance. The administration has also raised questions about perceived liberalism and antisemitism at Harvard.

Federal agencies are currently being asked to find alternative vendors for the services provided by Harvard, which include scientific research and executive training for government officials.

The administration has previously slashed federal research grants for Harvard and attempted to revoke its ability to enroll international students. Moreover, the government has threatened Harvard's tax-exempt status. In response, Harvard has sued the administration over these actions, the administration contending that the university is exhibiting resistance to its demands for change.

The Times reported on the draft letter from the GSA, which was shared anonymously by an official to describe internal discussions.
