Holy Cross Students Peacefully Protest Campus Issues

Students at College of the Holy Cross recently engaged in a peaceful protest on campus, expressing their grievances in a nonviolent manner. The protest, which took place on Hoval, saw students and supporters gather to voice their concerns about various campus issues.

The main issues raised during the protest included concerns about the quality of food in Kimball dining hall, the presence of pests such as mice in Brooks Hall, and the lack of meal plan options available to students. Julia Maher '23, a student at Holy Cross, wrote an opinion piece about the housing assignments released in Aug. 2020, which highlighted some of these concerns. Julia Kane '27, the Opinions Editor for the article, also expressed her views on the matter.

It's worth noting that the College of the Holy Cross only offers two meal plans for its students: the Resident Meal Plan and the Apartment Plan. The Resident Meal Plan includes unlimited meals in Kimball and 8 meal swipes per week, as well as $425 dining dollars each semester. The Apartment Plan offers a more flexible meal plan option, with dining dollars that can be used at various dining locations on campus.

The peaceful protest did not cause any major disruptions to university operations, and the students involved made it clear that they were not anticipating a coup or seeking to solve differences by force. Instead, they aimed to raise awareness about the issues they face and foster dialogue on campus.

While the specific protest described in this article took place at another university, it serves as a reminder of the power of peaceful protests in raising awareness and fostering dialogue on campus-related issues. By expressing their concerns respectfully and seeking institutional accountability, students can make a difference and bring about positive change on campus.

In other news, the enrollment process at Holy Cross is now underway, and students are encouraged to apply to join the Holy Cross community. For those who prefer off-campus living, the Apartment Plan meal plan may be a good option to consider.
