Financial aid of 1 million Euros will be allocated to the following initiatives:

The city of Essen is set to award the "Ehrenamtsstipendium für junge Engagierte" for the first time in 2026, a scholarship aimed at encouraging new talent in honorary activities. Interested parties can apply from May 1st, 2025, until October 31st, 2025.

The scholarship, worth 150 euros per month, will be awarded for one year each. Recipients will not receive any other funding, such as the Deutschlandstipendium. The motto of the Ehrenamtsstipendium is "Your honorary activity counts!", expressing gratitude and appreciation to young active people.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and not older than 27 years old in 2026. They must also be active honorary members of a club, association, or similar institution based in Essen. Applicants can be in school, vocational training, studying, or completing a voluntary social year in 2026.

Scholarship holders will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with each other. They will remain in regular contact with the city portal's Civil Participation and Volunteer Office, located at Rathaus, Porscheplatz 45121 Essen.
