Charles M. Vest, the 15th president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1990 to 2004, will be honoured with memorial services and a portrait unveiling at both MIT and Washington D.C.

On Thursday, February 20, the National Academy of Sciences will hold a memorial service for Vest in Washington D.C. This service is open to the public.

On Thursday, March 6, MIT will host a memorial service and portrait unveiling in memory of Vest. During his tenure as MIT's president, Vest renewed the Institute's commitment to education and research, developed strong ties with partners worldwide, broadened diversity, and transformed the campus with new buildings. After stepping down as president, he served as president of the National Academy of Engineering from 2007 to 2013.

Vest passed away on December 12, 2019, at the age of 72, due to pancreatic cancer.

Gifts in Charles M. Vest's memory can be made to the Charles M. Vest Presidential Fellowship Fund at MIT or to the Charles M. Vest President's Opportunity Fund at the National Academy of Engineering. An electronic guest book is also available for sharing memories and condolences with the Vest family.

The services on March 6 are open to the MIT community and friends of the Institute. It is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to education, research, and the betterment of society.

This event, scheduled for March 6, will take place at Kresge Auditorium and the Charles M. Vest Student Street in the Ray and Maria Stata Center. After the memorial service at 4:30 p.m., guests are invited to a reception in the same location. For the convenience of attendees, shuttle service will be provided from Kresge to the Stata Center.
