German Environment Agency's Specialist Library Expands Services

The Specialist Library Environment of the German Environment Agency has announced updates to its services and facilities. The OPAC, or public library catalog, now allows users to search and locate print collections, while the EDS provides access to online resources. The library, the largest of its kind in the German-speaking world, houses an impressive collection of over 500,000 books, 320,000 eBooks, 1,500 printed journals, and 30,000 eJournals.

Registered users can now manage their accounts, renew, order, or reserve borrowed media via the OPAC. New acquisitions can be viewed on-site or accessed via the 'New acquisitions' tab in the OPAC. Despite the UBA Service Building's closure until approximately 2026/27, the Berlin branch has moved to an interim address at the City Campus Umweltbundesamt Haus 3, Eingang 3A Buchholzweg 8 in 13627 Berlin. The library serves as a reference library for the authority and is also accessible and lendable to the public at locations in Dessau-Roßlau, Berlin, and Bad Elster. Users can find selection bibliographies on various environmental topics, publications by UBA employees, and final reports on research projects.

While specific titles of new library acquisitions for 2026 are not yet listed in the OPAC, catalogs like the Ismaning library's WebOPAC and lists from Morawa provide insights into anticipated releases. Titles such as 'Stonehenge - Die Kathedrale der Zeit', 'Kosmos Himmelsjahr 2026', and 'Der Donnerstagsmordclub und der unlösbare Code' are expected to be available in libraries' collections.

The Specialist Library Environment of the German Environment Agency continues to expand its services and resources. With the OPAC and EDS, users can access a vast collection of environmental information. Despite the temporary closure of the UBA Service Building, the library remains committed to serving the public and providing access to its extensive collection.
