Guide for Holy Cross Students: Managing Finals Weeks Successfully
As finals week approaches at Holy Cross, students may find themselves in need of extra study time and relaxation. Here's a round-up of some helpful resources and events to help you navigate this challenging period.
Study Spaces and Extended Library Hours
Dinand Library is extending its hours until Monday, December 16th, to provide students with additional study time. From Monday through Thursday, the library will be open from 7am to 2am. On Fridays, it will be open from 7am to Midnight, and on Saturdays, from 8:30am to 2am. On Sundays, December 8th and 15th, the library will be open for a full 16 hours, from 8:30am to 2am.
However, for the exact extended hours during finals week, it is best to check the official Holy Cross College website or contact the library directly, as this information is usually updated each semester. On the last day of finals, Monday, December 16th, the library will be open from 7am to 6pm.
Relaxation and Wellbeing
Maintaining mental health and wellbeing is crucial during finals week. Relaxation-focused campus events are available to help students unwind. Massage chairs at Ciampi are open for relaxation, and therapy dogs Tomo and Toshi are available for visits.
Articles and Features
Lizzie Swanson '28, the News Editor, and Stacey Kaliabakos '23, the Features Editor, have written articles about various aspects of Holy Cross life during finals week. Yana Giannoutos '28 has written an article about the size of tables in Rehm and Dinand, while Caroline Muniz '23 has written about Dinand Library celebrating the 50th anniversary of co-education at Holy Cross.
Genevieve Garlaneau '21 was interviewed about her experiences working in Dinand Library during midterms. The library is also hosting a special exhibit in celebration of the 50th anniversary of co-education, available both in Dinand Library and online.
Drop-in Citation Frustration Station
If you're struggling with citing in your papers, the Drop-in Citation Frustration Station at Dinand Library is here to help. You can find their schedule on the Holy Cross College website, and they also offer sessions via Zoom.
Taking Care of Yourself
Remember, finals week can be stressful, but taking care of your wellbeing can contribute to academic success. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with the Writers Workshop, take advantage of relaxation spots on campus, and prioritise self-care during this busy period.
Campus chaplain talks and cookie pick-ups at Campion are also available to help students stay grounded and supported during finals week. Take care, Holy Cross students, and good luck with your finals!
