Heidelberg University Launches CAS in Gender & Queer Studies
The University of Heidelberg is set to launch a new Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Gender & Queer Studies from the winter semester 2025/2026. This four-semester program, offered under heiSKILLS, aims to equip students with theoretical and methodological approaches to understand and tackle discrimination mechanisms.
The CAS, open to master's students and doctoral candidates from all fields, will include a professionally qualifying internship. Local organizations and companies, such as LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, cultural institutions, social services, and academic research centers, have offered internship places. These placements will provide practical experience in gender and queer issues.
The focus of the CAS lies in exploring gender relationships, concepts of gender, body, and sexuality. Students will learn to apply these concepts to various topics and recognize discrimination mechanisms. The program is designed to be completed alongside existing studies.
Applications for the winter semester 2025/2026 are still open. By offering this CAS, the University of Heidelberg aims to foster a deeper understanding of gender and queer studies, promoting inclusivity and equality in the Rhein-Neckar region and beyond.
