India advances to the Super 4s round of the Men's Hockey Asia Cup, securing the position with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Japan.
The Indian Men's Hockey Team put up a stellar performance against Japan in the Hero Men's Asia Cup Rajgir Bihar 2025, securing a hard-fought victory at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Rajgir, Bihar, India. The final score was 3-2 in favour of India.
India made a strong start to the first quarter, scoring two goals in the first five minutes. Mandeep Singh opened the scoring for India at the 4th minute, followed by Harmanpreet Singh's first goal at the 5th minute.
The second quarter saw a more defensive game from both teams, with no goals scored. However, towards the end of the match, Harmanpreet Singh was given a yellow card, reducing India to 10 men.
Despite Japan's best efforts, they were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage. They won two Penalty Corners in the match but were unable to convert either one.
India's goalkeeper, Krishan B Pathak, made two consecutive saves during a Penalty Corner in the opening minutes of the final quarter, keeping India's lead intact. Abhishek had a shot on goal from the right side of the circle, but it was saved by the Japanese goalkeeper.
In the dying moments of the match, Kosei Kawabe scored Japan's first goal at the 59th minute, but it was too little too late for the Japanese team. Harmanpreet Singh responded with India's third goal at the 59th minute as well, securing India's victory.
Krishan B Pathak also celebrated his 150th international game during the match. The Indian Men's Hockey Team's win against Japan guarantees them a spot in the Super 4s stage of the tournament.
India will face Kazakhstan in their next match in the Men's Asia Cup, Rajgir, Bihar 2025, on Monday, September 1. The team will look to continue their winning streak and secure a place in the finals.
