Indigenous Affairs Leader Ghislain Picard Discusses Issues

Rockin' with the School of Indigenous Leaders (SIL) at HEC Montreal!

Ain't no party like an Indigenous leadership party, and HEC Montreal is throwin' one! They've hit a home run with the appointment of Ghislain Picard as an associate prof at their school—the School of Indigenous Leaders (SIL)!

This badge of honor recognizes Ghislain's unrelenting passion for Indigenous self-determination and growing a spry Indigenous leadership youth. As the former Chief of Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador from '92 to 2025, Ghislain's been a driving force in conversations between governments and our Native peoples. With the launch of SIL in '21, he's been a dope addition, constantly lending his experience to their programs.

Now, as an associate prof, Ghislain's gonna be like Yoda to the up-and-coming Native leaders and entrepreneurs—passing on his wisdom about historical and modern issues that affect us. This dude's gonna help SIL keep thriving, growing, and strategically kickin' ass!

Whatchu talkin' 'bout, SIL?

SIL is this wicked Indigenous business school that's all about nurturing talented Native leaders. They have short-term university-level training programs for people in communities, online, and in Montreal— aimed at turbocharging leadership skills. These programs mix traditional wisdom with modern business practices to create a kickass combo that's as strong as moose meat. With HEC Montreal's faculty and Indigenous teachers gettin' together, they're offerin' courses in management, governance, economic recovery, women's leadership, and succession. A real powerhouse team!

Some other cool stuff you should know is that HEC Montreal has a thing called the First Nations Executive Education (FNEE) which aims to promote self-determination and boost socio-economic conditions in First Nation communities by offering short-term, university-level training programs. These programs focus on collaboration, sustainable development, and innovation-oriented leadership practices that are all about Native values.
