Institute in Zambia Utilizes Librarians for Nationwide Digital Upgrade
In a significant stride towards Zambia's digital transformation agenda, the SMART Zambia Institute, in collaboration with the Library and Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ) and Astria Learning Zambia, has launched a specialized digital skills and capabilities training program for librarians.
The training, held at David Livingstone College of Education, was spearheaded by the SMART Zambia Institute under the Office of the President. It was part of a broader effort to improve digital transformation and public service delivery in Zambia. The session launched as a pre-conference activity for the LIAZ Annual General Meeting, scheduled from July 23rd to 25th at Avani Resort in Livingstone.
The program focuses on equipping librarians with practical knowledge to navigate and benefit from Zambia's expanding digital public infrastructure. Librarians were identified as key partners in digital transformation, with a unique role in spreading awareness and facilitating access to digital government services.
Mr. Brian Nawa Nawa, Head of Digital Skills and Capabilities at the SMART Zambia Institute, led the training session alongside Mr. Charles Mwanza, Principal Officer for Service Support, and Ms. Chunga Manzi, Senior Officer for Digital Skills and Capabilities. The training covered the SMART Office with eRegistry System, aimed at enhancing digital literacy and improving public service delivery.
The Zamportal Platform (Government Service Bus) was introduced as a means to facilitate seamless service delivery across various government departments. By enhancing librarians' digital competencies, the partnership aims to create a ripple effect across libraries, schools, and communities nationwide.
The collaboration underscores the SMART Zambia Institute's dedication to inclusive digital capacity development. It also acknowledges the vital role information professionals play in advancing the digital economy. Mr. Brian Nawa Nawa stated that the program is part of ongoing efforts to build a digitally literate citizenry.
