The University Medical Center has expanded its horizons with the opening of its new Center for General Medicine. This innovative facility is dedicated to the training of future family doctors, offering a comprehensive, supervised environment for residents to hone their skills.

The Center for General Medicine, under the purview of the Ministry of Science, is designed to provide a more research-oriented approach to medical training. It aims to contribute significantly to the medical field by integrating research findings into teaching and practice.

Residents in the affiliated Family Medicine Residency program will benefit from this new setup. Over three years, they will gradually increase their responsibilities for patient care, starting with limited clinic time and progressing to managing their own patient panels with full hospital admission responsibilities.

The program emphasises continuity of holistic care, with a broad array of specialty faculty and didactic learning opportunities available to ensure well-rounded medical training. Residents will receive mentoring from over 100 specialty physicians who serve as preceptors and lecturers, attend formal lectures and grand rounds, and engage in research projects.

The integrated multidisciplinary setting, with access to diverse specialties and pharmacy support, prepares family medicine trainees for broad and holistic patient care. This approach is expected to lead to improved medical practices due to the integration of research findings.

While the specifics of the curriculum and teaching methods at the new Center for General Medicine have yet to be released, it is clear that the University Medical Center is committed to providing top-notch training for future family doctors. With its focus on research, mentorship, and a hands-on approach to learning, the Center for General Medicine is poised to make a significant impact on the medical field.
