International Youth Innovators Showcase Their Skills at Technology Conference in Malaysia
The China-Malaysia Youth Innovation Competition, a significant regional innovation contest, has completed its fourth successful edition, marking another year of fostering international cooperation and encouraging youth innovation in Southeast Asia.
Launched in 2019, the competition has attracted over 1,200 students from 10 Southeast Asian countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The competition is part of the broader China International College Students' Innovation Competition (CICSIC), which is one of the world's largest student innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.
The Southeast Asia Division Contest of CICSIC, known as SEA-CICSIC, and the Malaysia-China Youth Innovation Competition (MCYIC) took place at Xiamen University Malaysia. The launching ceremony for this year's competitions was held on 25 April 2025, attended by several dignitaries, including Zheng Xuefang, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia; Dato' Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan, President of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association; Professor Li Cheng, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs at Xiamen University; and Zhu Lei, Executive President of the Global Youth Innovation Leadership Community Association.
The contests covered diverse areas including sustainable technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and social entrepreneurship. The outstanding projects will be recommended for participation in the 2025 CICSIC finals. The 2025 final event concluded on 20 July 2025 at Xiamen University Malaysia, with 50 teams from 7 countries receiving awards, including 10 First Prize Awards, 15 Second Prize Awards, and 25 Third Prize Awards.
The Malaysia-China Youth Innovation Competition, which has been running for four successful editions, serves to promote cross-border cooperation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among college students in Southeast Asia. The SEA-CICSIC, as part of the larger CICSIC, underscores its large scale and influence, attracting millions of teams and tens of millions of participants from thousands of universities worldwide.
