ISU initiates tree planting and environmental cleanup project
The International Standard University (ISU) has taken an initiative to promote environmental awareness and sustainability by launching a tree plantation and clean-up campaign. The event, inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan, was held at the ISU's Mohakhali campus on Wednesday.
The campaign, organised by the ISU Environmental and Sustainable Development Club, saw active participation from faculty deans, department heads, university officials, and students. As part of the campaign, students not only planted trees on the university's campus but also cleaned the surrounding areas, aiming to instill a sense of responsibility among students towards the environment.
Dr Khan emphasized the importance of maintaining ecological balance and fulfilling civic responsibilities. He called for broader community participation to make Dhaka a model green city. The campaign is an effort in this direction, aligning with global university trends that emphasize multidisciplinary approaches, collaborative platforms, and commitments to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Universities worldwide are increasingly integrating ethics, transparency, and cooperation in their sustainability and digital innovation strategies. This includes AI literacy, which is relevant for embedding sustainability in education and community impact. Globally, universities aim for operational net zero carbon and positive societal and environmental transformations, indicating a trend that ISU might follow in their local context.
While the direct impact of ISU's specific initiatives on transforming Dhaka into a green city is yet to be seen, the university's commitment to sustainability is commendable. The campaign is a step in the right direction, and it is hoped that it will inspire other educational institutions and communities in Dhaka to follow suit.
The ISU Environmental and Sustainable Development Club's tree plantation and clean-up campaign, encompassing students, faculty, and university officials, is also emphasizing the importance of AI literacy as a means to embed sustainability in education and community impact, aligning with global trends that integrate ethics, transparency, and cooperation in sustainability and digital innovation strategies. The university's focus on environmental-science education-and-self-development, as demonstrated by this campaign, contributes to the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), marking a potential shift towards operational net zero carbon and positive societal and environmental transformations, similar to those being pursued by universities worldwide.
