Kazakhstan Boosts Medical Education with New Admission Reforms

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Education and Science has implemented significant changes to medical university admissions in 2025. The reforms aim to enhance educational quality and align with updated national standards, with a focus on improving the country's healthcare personnel.

The ministry has introduced six new internship directions, accommodating 4356 students in total. Notably, nearly half of these students are training to become general practitioners. Additionally, 2700 scholarships have been allocated for 49 medical specialties at the bachelor's level.

For the first time, foreign applicants must now present an English language proficiency certificate. The minimum admission score has been raised to 70, with those admitted under state order required to achieve at least 100 points. Some universities have reduced the number of paid admissions to optimize academic load and enhance practical training.

These reforms reflect the ministry's commitment to improving the quality of medical education. The opening of 14 new pediatrics specialties and the allocation of scholarships for master's and PhD programs demonstrate a focus on developing medical science. Ultimately, these changes aim to create a high-quality reserve of personnel for Kazakhstan's healthcare system, ensuring the country has highly professional medical personnel.
