Tough Schooling for Neglectful Parents in Jambyl Region

A local mom from Jambyl Region just can't seem to keep her college-aged son in class, and the consequences are piling up! Our website reports that she's been hit with another fine due to her son's continued truancy, according to the regional court.

The court's official Telegram channel shares that the case under part 2 of Article 127 of Kazakhstan's Code of Administrative Offenses was heard by the specialized inter-regional court for cases involving minors in Jambyl Region. Apparently, the son, a 2nd-year college student, has been skipping classes in a pattern with no valid excuses, the court noted.

Being under 16, a protocol was drawn up against his mother. Last year, she was already served with an administrative penalty due to her son's truancy, and now she's been found guilty once more. This time, she's been slapped with a 15 MCI fine, but, considering extenuating circumstances, the court knocked 30% off the fine, bringing it down to 41,000 tenge.

Although the ruling hasn't been enforced yet, Kazakhstan's Code of Administrative Offenses states that repeated failure by parents or guardians to fulfill their child-rearing responsibilities, including education and nurturance, within a year of receiving an administrative penalty for the same offense could result in a fine of 15 MCI or up to 5 days of administrative arrest. The fine amounts to about 59,000 tenge.

It's worth mentioning that, while exact penalties for repeated educational neglect aren't provided, there's a general trend in Kazakhstan towards administrative rather than criminal sanctions for non-severe familial offenses. This suggests that educational neglect penalties might follow a similar pattern. However, for specific details on the educational neglect provisions under Article 127, one should consult the full text of the Kazakh Code of Administrative Offenses or legal databases.

Just recently in Aktobe Region, a teenager's father who stole a mobile phone was given a fine and an administrative arrest, as reported elsewhere.
