Kids Lead Police in 'Blitz for Kids' Traffic Safety Action

On Thursday, the Fliedetalschule in Flieden hosted the 'Blitz for Kids' action, led by Police Chief Karl-Heinz Körber. The event aimed to raise awareness about traffic safety among drivers and educate children about road rules.

The initiative involved 32 fourth-graders who assisted police officers in distributing roses and lemons to drivers. The roses were given to those adhering to traffic rules, while lemons, symbolizing a 'yellow card', were handed to offenders. Offenses noted included distracted driving, not wearing seatbelts, and not wearing helmets on motorcycles.

During the action, 13 speeding offenses were recorded. Drivers who received lemons apologized to the children and pledged to improve their driving habits. The event was deemed successful, with drivers showing support and students learning essential traffic safety tips. Children at this age struggle to estimate speeds accurately, making it crucial for adults to be attentive and stick to speed limits. The braking distance at 30 km/h is approximately 13 meters, and at 50 km/h, the reaction distance alone is 15 meters.

The 'Blitz for Kids' action at the Fliedetalschule in Flieden was a positive step towards promoting traffic safety. It engaged children in learning about road rules and encouraged drivers to reflect on their behavior. Police in East Hesse continue to be present at schools in the region to reinforce these important messages.
