The Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC), established in 1978, recently held its 137th meeting in New Delhi on June 12, 2025. The meeting, chaired by the Indian Coast Guard, aimed to review the preparedness and effectiveness of the security of India's offshore installations and enhance joint response mechanisms.

Representatives from various organisations, including the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, Intelligence Bureau, Directorate General of Shipping, ONGC, and state police forces from Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh attended the meeting. The committee underscored the importance of enhancing joint responses to safeguard vital energy infrastructure.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of energy security and the need to take all possible measures to ensure the security of offshore assets for their contribution to the nation's growth and independence. A special emphasis was placed on strengthening coordination amongst agencies to address emerging challenges and ensure the security of offshore assets.

In another development, several Green Skills-focused Electric Vehicle (EV) training programs are currently being implemented and expanded in India. These programs aim to develop workforce skills aligned with EV technology and green mobility.

For instance, IIT Delhi’s Advanced Programme in Electric Vehicle Technology (APEVT) offers comprehensive EV training through the Continuing Education Programme. It covers real-world case studies, hands-on exercises, industry-relevant projects, and interactive live sessions by IIT Delhi faculty. It is designed for fresh graduates and working professionals to build capabilities in e-mobility, with an optional campus immersion after completion.

SkkySkill’s Post Graduation Program on Hybrid Electric Vehicle provides a 7-month online course with live sessions, mentorship, 20+ industry-standard projects, and placement support. It includes a 1-week optional industrial visit to an EV manufacturing setup, and the premium plan offers advanced electric vehicle certification from IIT Guwahati, guest lectures, and 15 days of optional offline practical training at EV labs in Bhubaneswar or Hyderabad.

Parul University offers a B.Sc. (Honors) in Electric Vehicle Technology, focusing on design, development, and implementation of EV systems as well as regulatory aspects and sustainable mobility solutions. Short-term, focused training programs also exist, such as a 45-day Job-Oriented EV Training Program involving 30 days of expert classroom sessions followed by 15 days of practical hands-on learning.

These programs collectively reflect an expanding ecosystem in India aimed at addressing skill gaps for the growing EV sector by integrating advanced technology training, practical industry exposure, certification from premier institutions, and linkage with industry placements. They contribute to India’s green energy and sustainable transport ambitions by fostering a workforce with relevant green skills in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle sector.

  1. To secure the nation's economic growth and independence, the importance of safeguarding vital energy infrastructure, such as real-estate in the form of offshore assets, was underscored during the Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC) meeting.
  2. In a different context, education and self-development are being emphasized, with the implementation of Green Skills-focused Electric Vehicle (EV) training programs to prepare the workforce for the EV technology sector.
  3. Online education platforms, like IIT Delhi’s Advanced Programme in Electric Vehicle Technology (APEVT) and SkkySkill's Post Graduation Program on Hybrid Electric Vehicle, offer comprehensive training in EV technology and practical industry exposure.
  4. As part of the initiatives to address skill gaps in the growing EV sector, programs like Parul University's B.Sc. (Honors) in Electric Vehicle Technology and short-term, focused training programs provide a combination of advanced technology training, certification from premier institutions, and linkage with industry placements.
