Jason Colero, a community and education programs specialist with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, has been working with the Argonauts for 40 years and has been a part of this program since its inception 24 years ago. He considers the University of Guelph as an essential part of their preseason preparations, stating, "Guelph is practically the Argonauts' second home!"
The students were ecstatic to witness the reigning Grey Cup champions in action. Grade 6 student, Claire Johnston, expressed her excitement, "My family loves football, and when I heard we'd get to watch them, I couldn't contain my excitement!" Since she's a budding athlete herself, watching the team and learning from their practices was a dream come true for her.
It wasn't just about football for these students. Chad Kelly, the team's quarterback, highlighted the importance of hard work, saying, "Hard work beats talent, every time." DaVaris Daniels, a team wide receiver, emphasized the need to stand up against bullies and reminded the students, "Leave no man behind. Together, we're stronger!"
Daniels also pointed out the misconception about professional athletes having it easy. He expressed, "It's not always going to be easy, but hard work always wins in the end!" This hard work applies not just to winning football games, but also to standing up for what's right.
The Argonauts will once again make their way to Guelph on May 30, this time to face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Alumni Stadium. As their inaugural training camp event showed, they're not just about football; they're about promoting a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for all!
