Military Recognition for Sessions: School Achieves Friendly Status for Veterans
In a significant recognition of their commitment to supporting military and veteran students, over 830 schools have been awarded the prestigious Military Friendly® School designation for the 2025-2026 academic year. This designation is a testament to the schools' dedication to meeting the academic, financial, and social needs of this community.
The Military Friendly® School designation is based on a comprehensive evaluation of institutions' support for military and veteran students. The process, conducted annually by Militaryfriendly.com, uses both public data sources and responses to a proprietary survey. Key criteria include high graduation rates, low loan default rates, robust support services, dedicated resources, and a demonstrable commitment to creating a welcoming and resource-rich environment for military students.
Schools are expected to have a graduation rate of at least 50% or higher for all students or specifically for veteran students. Institutional loan default rates must be 20% or lower for all students. Schools must also demonstrate robust support, providing tailored academic advising, help with navigating VA benefits, certification assistance, priority registration, success coaching, and community-building events. Many institutions have Veterans Resource Centers that go beyond standard offerings to holistically support veteran students.
This year's survey saw more than 1,800 schools participating. Kayla Lopez, Vice President of Military Friendly, noted that schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, exceeding the standard. Drummond, the President of our institution, stated that the award reflects the dedication of faculty and staff to supporting students from the active servicemember, veteran, and family member community. Our institution is proud to be one of the 830 schools that earned a special award, receiving a Silver Award.
Drummond highlighted that the flexibility and quality of the institution's programs have been an excellent match for military students for over 20 years. The MFS survey tests an institution's ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
Being recognised as a 2025-2026 Military Friendly® School is a tribute to the institution's enduring commitment to students. The survey is noted as the longest-running, most comprehensive review of college and university investments in serving military and veteran students. This designation reflects a school's dedication to meeting the unique needs of military-affiliated students and is recognised as a significant investment in veteran success and support initiatives.
