New Academic Year Highlights Fresh Start According to Judy Harris's Opinion
Thomas More University Gears Up for New Academic Year
As the first day of the new academic year approaches, student-athletes at Thomas More University have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. During the summer months, these athletes have been maintaining and refining their skills through regular weight room visits, skills practices, and pick-up games. Guidance from trainers has been instrumental in helping them stay in top form.
While many collegiate academic sectors were empty during the summer, the university's athletic sectors remained active. Student-athletes and coaches have been busy hosting camps to stay engaged with their sport, and the campus has been bustling with energy. Events like Move-In Day, where upperclassmen and teammates help new students settle into their dorms, have added to the vibrant atmosphere.
The university's commitment to its student-athletes is evident in its recent move to become a full member of NCAA Division II. This move allows student-athletes to earn national tournament slots, providing them with even more opportunities to excel.
One such team that has been making waves is the TMU Saints Dance Team. After losing almost a third of its members to graduation, Coach Kara Thompson has doubled the team size for the 2025-2026 season by recruiting new members. The dance team has also set another record by increasing its team size for the upcoming season.
The Saints Cross Country team is another group that has been putting in the work during the summer. A poem titled "Ode to Saints Cross Country 2025" expresses the anticipation for the new season, with the team aiming to break records and achieve personal bests.
Judy Harris, a longtime educator at Thomas More University, has been a significant part of the university's community. A graduate of the university herself, she continues to stay in daily contact with current students. Harris is well-established in Northern Kentucky life and can be reached at [email protected].
Many student-athletes at Thomas More University work outside jobs and participate in paid internships to help cover the costs of college. Despite the challenges, they remain dedicated to their studies and their sports.
As the new academic year begins, everyone at Thomas More University, including coaches, student-athletes, and fans, are excited for what the year ahead holds. The university, its teams, and its community are filled with life, joy, energy, and vitality, ready to take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
