Revamped Exam Prep Trends in 2025

The shift in exam prep schedules for schoolkids in 2025, moving it to March, has sparked a surge in online learning—a trend that's gaining momentum. Yota analysts reveal a 39% increase in users of online preparation services from January to May compared to the previous year.

Diving deep into the most popular online exam prep platforms reveals a wealth of resources, such as trial versions for various subjects and sample tasks. And the audience is growing, with an astounding 39% more users this year, consuming 63% more traffic.

In Primorsky Krai, girls dominate the online prep scene, making up 52% of the audience. However, the girl influx on these platforms has grown by 12%, while the boy count remains stable.

A scrutiny of exam prep habits from 2023 to 2025 shows Primorye students put in the hard work mostly between September and February, with a noticeable dip during summer, and a spike when they return from vacation.

Megaphone analysts also flag an increase in Far Eastern residents' online prep traffic by 6%. The busiest period for these students falls in May, with 75% of the traffic generated between May 12 and 31. Habarovsk, Yakutsk, and Vladivostok top the list of active online learners in the Far East.

The growth in online learning is influenced by several factors. The K-12 online learning sector is projected to expand at a 12.5% annual rate, hitting $5.66 trillion by 2030. Microlearning, personalization, and edtech integration are key drivers for this growth. These elements offer adaptive, interactive, and flexible learning experiences, boosting engagement and retention among students.

While regional data might be scarce, the global trend points to a widespread digital educational revolution. The US, for instance, has significantly increased its use of edtech tools, with over 2,500 tools per district in 2023.

Gender-wise, both males and females seem to benefit equally from these platforms. However, there's a lack of specific data on the distribution of these online learners in 2025. Yet, online learning platforms appear to be a level playing field for all, irrespective of gender.

As the educational landscape evolves, online exam prep is likely to become standard practice. More in-depth research focusing on specific demographics might provide a clearer picture of the gender distribution in these online learning spaces.
