Osnabrück Celebrates Peace Month: 377 Years After Westphalia

Osnabrück is set to honour the end of the Thirty Years' War with a month-long celebration, Peace Month, from October 1 to November 7, 2025. The event will feature a variety of activities, including lectures, discussions, concerts, films, exhibitions, church services, and city tours, all centred around the theme of peace.

Kicking off the month is the exhibition '#TheUNandUS' (October 2 - November 7), which showcases the work and tasks of the United Nations. On October 5, a concert titled 'Melodies as Resistance - Musica pro pace' will take place at the University's Aula. The German Foundation for Peace Research will mark its 25th anniversary with a public lecture on October 8.

The Peace Dialogue on October 23 will focus on climate and resource protection. A panel discussion on 'The Future of the United Nations in a Changing World Order' will follow on October 24, organised by the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA). The same day, the 40th FilmFest Osnabrück will commence, featuring a competition for the Peace Film Prize. The festival runs until October 12.

Traditional events such as the 'Steckenpferdreiten', joint Peace Singing, and Ecumenical Peace Service will also take place during the month. Peace Month will conclude with the commemoration of the end of the Thirty Years' War on October 25, marking 377 years since the signing of the Peace of Westphalia.

Osnabrück's Peace Month promises to be a rich and diverse exploration of peace, its history, and its future. With a mix of cultural events, intellectual discussions, and traditional commemorations, the city invites all to reflect on and celebrate peace.
