Palatine College of Elizabeth von der Pfalz Honored as a "Healthy School"

The Elisabeth-von-der-Pfalz-Berufskolleg has been awarded the title of "Healthy School in the Wittekind Circle", as part of the "Healthy Schools" program. This initiative, supported by the Kreis-Gesundheitsamt for nine years, aims to promote health and wellbeing among students and teachers.

The program offers a wealth of advice and resources for schools, teachers, and students alike. It provides local contact points for advice on "growing up and teaching healthily", with the Gesundheitskonferenz website offering an overview of these resources.

At the Elisabeth-von-der-Pfalz-Berufskolleg, students have recently delved into topics such as eating disorder prevention, relaxation and movement, first aid, and healthy international cuisine. Teachers, too, have benefited from a health day focusing on nutrition, resilience, time management, ergonomics, and individual diagnostics.

The program also focuses on enhancing coordination, concentration, learning ability, and motivation in students, through initiatives such as the "link moves" program led by sports scientist and trainer, Pascal Kramer.

Schools that demonstrate exceptional engagement in health promotion and prevention activities receive a certificate as "Healthy Schools". This year, several schools will receive this distinction, including the Elisabeth-von-der-Pfalz-Berufskolleg, Grundschulen in Westerenger and Löhne-Obernbeck, and the Erich-Kästner-Gesamtschule in Bünde and Kirchlengern.

The importance of health in successful learning, personal development, and societal participation cannot be overstated. Schools play a vital role in teaching children about the importance of health and taking action. By implementing at least three health-promoting measures and one for teachers during the project period, each of these schools is making a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of their students and staff.
