Park University's International Music Center is preparing to hold its opening concert on the 1st of November.
The Park University International Center for Music (ICM) is set to kick off its 2024-25 concert season with a captivating performance on November 1, 2024. The concert, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., will take place in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Parkville Campus.
The highlight of the evening will be the first appearance of guest conductor Laura Jackson, D.M.A., music director and conductor of the Reno Philharmonic. Under her leadership, the orchestra will perform a compelling program of works for string orchestra.
The program includes timeless pieces such as "Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, BWV 1048," by Johann Sebastian Bach, "Serenade for Strings in E Major, Op.22," by Antonin Dvořák, and "Simple Symphony, Op.4," by Benjamin Britten. The concert will also feature "Serenade for Strings in E Major, Op.22," by Antonin Dvořák.
In addition to the main concert, the students in the ICM's strings studios will showcase their talents in a separate recital on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. This recital will take place at the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kan. The strings studios at the International Center for Music are led by Ben Sayevich, violin, Daniel Veis, cello, and Chung-Hoon Peter Chun, viola.
Laura Jackson has an impressive background in the world of music. She was the first female assistant conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 2004-07 and has recorded various works with different orchestras, including Michael Daugherty's "Time Cycle" with the Bournemouth (England) Symphony Orchestra Symphony.
