Professional networking site, LinkedIn, introduces a new feature, "Duolingo Score," to quantify users' language proficiency.
Duolingo, the renowned language learning platform, has revealed a significant partnership with LinkedIn, the professional networking site, at its annual conference, Duocon, held in April 2025. This strategic alliance is part of Duolingo's aim to become an 'AI-first' company.
The partnership enables LinkedIn users to connect their accounts with Duolingo, allowing them to display their Duolingo Score on their profiles. The Duolingo Score, a more detailed assessment than the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), ranges from 0 to 160 points.
George Audi, Duolingo's Vice President of Business Development & Partnerships, commented on the new feature, stating, "We believe this partnership will provide a valuable tool for both learners and employers, offering a transparent record of acquired language skills and helping recruiters better understand language proficiency."
One of the key features of this partnership is the integration of Duolingo's language learning platform with LinkedIn. This means that users can now showcase their language skills, as assessed by the Duolingo Score, on their professional profiles.
In addition to this, Duolingo has also introduced a Player-vs-Player mode in its chess course. This feature allows learners to compete in real-time, either on iOS or, soon on Android. The Player-vs-Player mode is initially available on iOS, with Android support forthcoming.
The correspondence between Duolingo Scores and CEFR levels is explained in a Duolingo blog post from November 2024. This post provides a useful guide for users who wish to understand how their Duolingo Score translates to the CEFR levels.
The Duolingo chess course, previously available only on iOS devices, is now accessible on Android. This expansion aims to make Duolingo's language learning resources more inclusive and accessible to a wider audience.
Recruiters and employers can now benefit from this partnership, as they can gain a clearer understanding of a candidate's language proficiency, thanks to the Duolingo Score. This partnership is set to revolutionize the way language skills are perceived and valued in the professional world.
