Pupils in Omsk concluded the "Expanding My Horizons with Russia" course

In the Omsk region, the professional orientation course "Russia - My Horizons" wraps up for the academic year, catering to 8th and 10th graders. As per the regional Ministry of Education, the primary objective of this course is to familiarize students with in-demand professions and equip them with practical skills for a successful job start.

The culminating session, titled "My Country - My Achievements - My Future," focuses on resume creation, job opportunities for teenagers, and labor laws concerning minors. Teachers and experts guide students in understanding the differences between internships and part-time jobs, while highlighting suitable workplaces for teenagers aged 14 and above.

Ivan Yesin, the head of the Unified Model of Career Guidance "Ticket to the Future," conveys the significance of such lessons. He believes that such reflective sessions empower students to identify their strengths, interests, and make informed career choices. The aim is to provide students with not just knowledge but practical tools like resume-writing skills and an understanding of labor rights, ensuring their career paths are meaningful and successful.

Throughout the academic year, students gained insights into promising industries, completed diagnostic tests on the "Ticket to the Future" platform, and participated in practical exercises and training sessions. Upon course completion, students filled out a "Map of My Professional Future" to highlight their preferred professions and skills.

With this academic year drawing to a close, the project reached over 8.4 million students from grades 6-11 across 89 regions of Russia, helping them make informed career choices and prepare for future employment. The initiative forms part of larger educational endeavors aimed at enlightening students about their career paths. By encouraging career exploration, skill identification, and interactive learning, the course seeks to equip students with the essential tools to plan their professional futures proactively.

I'm not sure if this course focuses on personal growth and learning outside of professional development, but the "Russia - My Horizons" course does have a significant role in education-and-self-development by equipping students with practical tools for a successful future. For instance, it encourages career exploration and skill identification, and even provides resume-writing skills and an understanding of labor rights – all of which contribute to personal growth and learning.
