Park University Honours Its Distinguished Community

At a virtual ceremony held on May 6, 2020, Park University celebrated its 25th annual Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards. Despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the event recognised the outstanding achievements of students, faculty, and staff who have distinguished themselves as leaders within the university community.

Among the recipients was Wen Hsin, Ph.D., a professor of information and computer science in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Hsin was honoured with the Student Organization Adviser of the Year Award for his exceptional guidance of the Alexa Club, a student organisation dedicated to promoting computer science and software development.

The Alexa Club itself was also recognised, receiving the New Student Organisation of the Year Award. The club's success is a testament to Dr. Hsin's leadership and dedication to fostering a vibrant and supportive learning environment.

Other notable recipients included Samaiyah Scott, Ph.D., an admissions counsellor in Kansas City, who was a recipient of the Faculty/Staff Newcomer of the Year Award. Karley Evans, a student success coach in Mission, Kansas, received the Student Success and Impact Award for her commitment to supporting students' academic and personal growth.

In the field of computer science and software development, Ozoda Narzullaeva, a junior majoring in these subjects, was honoured with the Outstanding Class Member Awards for the junior class. Edgar Cerna, another junior majoring in software development, was also a recipient of the Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards.

Sophie Craven, a sophomore nursing major, received the C.W. Bailey Award, while Taela Ivory, a senior nursing major, was awarded the Toni Griggs Award. Gustavo Fernandez Agreda, a graduate student in the Master of Business Administration program, was one of the recipients of the Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards.

The event also recognised the achievements of students in other fields. Matheus Chesca da Silva Teles, a multimedia journalism/public relations major, was honoured with the Outstanding Class Member Awards for the junior class. Alba Myshketa, a biology and chemistry major, received the same award for the sophomore class.

Savanna Moffett, a junior biology major from Stanton, Iowa, received the Student Employee of the Year Award, while Ahmed Zlitni, a freshman liberal arts major from Kansas City, Missouri, was honoured with both the Park Student Government Association / Cindy Anderson Senator of the Year Award and the C.W. Bailey Award.

The awards are named after Dr. Doris A. Howell, a 1944 Park graduate who was an internationally renowned leader in pediatrics and hospice care. The recipients of these awards are individuals who have demonstrated leadership, dedication, and a commitment to excellence in their respective fields.

The event, which was scheduled to be held on April 18, was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the spirit of recognition and celebration remained, as Park University honoured its outstanding community members in a virtual ceremony. The university looks forward to continuing to recognise and celebrate its community's achievements in the future.

The honour bestowed upon Dr. Hsin acknowledges his significant impact in the field of education-and-self-development, particularly his role as advisor to the Alexa Club, a testament to his lifestyle of fostering a vibrant and supportive learning environment.

Matheus Chesca da Silva Teles' recognition in the Outstanding Class Member Awards reinforces the general-news of Park University's diverse community, excelling in various disciplines, including multimedia journalism and public relations.
