Northern Kentucky University Unveils Renovated Welcome Center
Northern Kentucky University (NKU) is set to debut its newly renovated Welcome Center on Thursday, September 18. The center, centrally located in the heart of the campus, is more than just a space; it's an experience.
The renovation project, which spanned ten months, saw upgrades to the University Center, the Otto M. Budig Theater, lighting, digital systems, and more. The cost of the renovation was $3.1 million.
The Otto M. Budig Theater in the renovated Welcome Center is now state-of-the-art, providing a modern space for events and presentations. The atrium of the center features NKU's signature gold paneling and a mural of Victor E. Viking, the university's mascot.
The renovated Welcome Center will soon house the Norse Network Hub, intended to be an interactive space to welcome prospective members of the Norse community. It is also adjacent to NKU's First Year Student Success Hub and Career Services, making it a convenient front door to the university.
The redesign includes a three-story luminaire inspired by the NKU flame, adding a touch of elegance to the atrium. The advancements in lighting throughout the center create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The renovated Welcome Center is intended to further support student engagement and recruitment. NKU's Chief Strategic Enrollment Management Officer, Ryan Padgett, described the center as an experience, rather than just a space.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Welcome Center will take place at 1 p.m. in the University Center. The ceremony will include a demonstration of the new and improved visitor experience.
The Welcome Center aims to provide a hub for the university community, serving as a central point for students, staff, and visitors alike. With the renovation complete, NKU is ready to welcome a new academic year with an enhanced space for its community.
